About Us
Found at the mouth of Big Bend National Park, La Loma del Chivo is an unplanned Eco Village/Hostel with numerous offerings to those who get the joke.
If you want to know what the joke is, there are usually some wonderful souls around to help you out. Typical guests at LLDC are travellers, couchsurfers, woofers, artists, and adventurers of all kind. Some come to reflect, while others come to contribute to this unique place.
If you are on your way to Big Bend, come by for a visit or stay overnight in our hostel. Call us today at 512-410-8370 or 432-386-2116 for more information.
Farm Description
La Loma Del Chivo is a venue for year-round Food-Worthy* farming, special events, and educational opportunities that demonstrate a holistic approach to sustainable living, bio-regional design, and creative expression.
Located in the high desert of West Texas, Marathon sits near the entrance to Big Bend National Park. We have two small organic gardens, and foresee lush edible gardens winding throughout the hot desert property soon. We grow fruit, vegetables, flowers, herbs, raise poultry… and of course, goats! Our special events include everything from weddings and festivals, to art shows, birthday parties, and family bar-b-ques. La Loma Del Chivo also hosts a variety of classes and workshops that are open to the public, including:
- Papercrete building
- Alternative building
- Canning workshops
- Solar energy
- Solar water heating
- Rain catchment
- Composting toilet making
- Solar toilet
- Reused vegetable oil
- Wind power
- Organic gardening
We invite instructors of all types to hold classes here as well.
Languages spoken are English and Spanish. Children and pets can be hosted. We usually end up having menus for vegetarians and meat eaters alike.
We accept WWOOFers all months of the year. 3 or 4 accommodation options, depending on what works.
*Food-Worthy ~ Food that is sustainably grown or raised humanely, and/or locally produced without chemicals.
